Answers

Church Showings

  1. Can we charge admission when we show Final Solution?

No. Charging admission is a commercial exploitation of the film that is not included in your public performance license. An offering is okay, but no set admission fee of any kind.

  2. Can we take an offering when we show Final Solution?

Yes. Many churches take an offering before showing the film as a way to offset the costs of the event. It may be best to remind visitors that, as guests, they aren’t obligated to donate.

  3. Can we show Final Solution more than once?

Yes. As the owner of a Public Performance copy of the film, your church has the right to show it within your congregation an unlimited number of times. For example, it cannot be lent to another church for them to show publicly, but it could be used at another venue for events conducted by your church, such as a retreat center or a privately rented theater. It can also be used in your church’s video library for home use by borrowers.

  4. Can we show Final Solution in another church?

No. This Public Performance license is not transferable. Churches must purchase a Public Performance copy directly from Crown Video in order to show it legally.

  5. We know it’s being released on home video in June – can we wait to buy a copy and show it in our church then?

The short answer is, No. A retail copy that is marked “For Home Use Only” is only to be shown in private settings. As the FBI warning at the beginning of a film indicates, other unauthorized use is considered to be a criminal act. Public Performance Rights are NOT included with the “home use” copies.

  6. Do we have to return the film after we show it?

No. It is yours to keep and use as often as you wish.

  7. Can we return it if we feel it is unsuitable?

Yes, BUT only if it is returned before any public exhibition. In other words, it’s okay for someone in your church to watch the film beforehand. We guarantee your satisfaction with the quality of the film and the significance of the message, and will refund the cost of an UN-USED church package (minus related shipping costs).

  8. Can we sell copies of Final Solution VHS, DVD and CD?

Yes, you may purchase additional copies of the film from Crown Video for sale – but ONLY in conjunction with a public performance.

  9. How much can we sell the copies of Final Solution for?

That is up to you, but we suggest a retail value of:
    VHS $22.99 ($24.99 in Canada)
    DVD $24.99 ($29.99 in Canada)
    Soundtrack $14.99 ($19.99 in Canada)

  10. Is the film appropriate for all ages?

No. There is some violence in the film that makes it unsuitable for young children. We recommend that ages 13 and up view the film, and we encourage parental caution.

The Movie Final Solution:

  1. Will Final Solution be shown in theaters?

Likely not. It has done very well at film festivals and was initially planned as a theatrical release; however, the producers chose to take advantage of other distribution channels. It is currently being broadcast on television internationally, and will be released on home video in June 2003.

  2. When will Final Solution be released on home video?

    June 24, 2003.

  3. What is the storyline?

Set in the apartheid-era of South Africa, Final Solution is based on the true story of Gerrit Wolfaardt. As a paramilitary member, Wolfaardt actively worked to drive blacks from South Africa. Inspired by Hitler, he planned a mass extermination–a ‘final solution’–for blacks. Through two books and two friends, he experienced a remarkable personal transformation.

The film opens in a church where Gerrit is the guest speaker. During the meeting, there is a shooting in the township and one of the gunmen takes refuge inside the church. An angry mob demanding justice enters the church as well and Gerrit does his best to diffuse the tense standoff that follows.

Gerrit is now an ordained minister; he lives in Colorado Springs with his wife Celeste.

  4. How much of the story is true?

Gerrit does exist and, by his own admission, the atrocities he carried out were at least as horrific as those depicted in the film. Although dramatic license has been taken with the story for the sake of the film, the key events of his life are as depicted. You can learn more about Gerrit’s life by watching the documentary, FROM ONE BLOOD.
